Enabling the Safe Production of Food and Beverages

In the food industry, the requirements for machines and their electrical components are often must stricter than in classical plant construction. Hygiene plays a pivotal role in the production and processing of food and beverages, and production plants and their components must be manufactured according to the principles of clean room and hygienic design. This includes the electrical connection technology.

Cables and wires in the food and beverage industry must adhere to strict hygiene standards. They must be food-safe, which means easy to clean and they cannot contain harmful substances that could potentially contaminate the foods. This is often achieved through the use of antimicrobial cables which utilise the lotus effect to prevent foreign bodies from adhering to them. At the same time, they must be resistant to aggressive cleaning agents and disinfectants, which are regularly used in food production.

Extreme temperatures are also not uncommon in the food industry, and cables and wires must be suited for use in both high and low temperatures. Furthermore, production plants producing food and beverages are often working around the clock. The cables must therefore be extremely robust and durable to withstand these constant mechanical loads.

HELUKABEL offers a wide range of highly thermally, chemically, and mechanically resilient cables and wires. Our portfolio includes connection and control cables, industrial Ethernet, bus, & other data cables, as well as motor, servo, & encoder cables, all certified and approved for use in the food and beverage industry. In addition to our selection of over 33,000 standard products, we also offer customers custom solutions including pre-assembled cables, complete modules, and ready-to-use drag chain systems.

The HELUKABEL portfolio also contains the associated accessories required for your application. The Helutop HT-Clean , for example, has a special, smooth surface that prevents contaminants of all kinds from adhering to it. This stainless-steel gland is also resistant to all common chemical cleaning agents and has been approved by the EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) and is therefore suited for the safe production of food. The gland also complies with requirements set forth by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and has been certified by Ecolab.
